HHH A

2019

HHH A (High Hanging Headphone) was displayed in M HKA during the exhibition Failures of Cohabitation in May 2019.

The headphone is suspended in the middle of the staircase leading to the rest of the exhibition. When a visitor picks up the headphone, a 1-minute audio fragment plays, featuring a voice that sketches an endless vertical room. This experience invites the listener to engage in a collective imaginative process, where their personal interpretation intertwines with the shared space of the exhibition.

While listening to this fragment, the visitor inadvertently blocks the path for other visitors to the exhibition. This moment becomes a reflection on the nature of individual expression within a communal setting. The headphone serves as a metaphor for the delicate balance between personal engagement and the collective experience of art. As one person immerses themselves in the audio, they momentarily create a barrier, prompting questions about the dynamics of participation and the impact of individual actions on the shared experience of others.

In this way, HHH A not only challenges the visitor's perception of space and time but also invites them to consider their role within the larger context of the exhibition. It embodies the idea that art can be a system that reflects and sustains the expressions of all individuals, encouraging a dialogue about the interconnectedness of our experiences in a shared environment.
