Monolith #

2021

Monolith # is a 20-minute interactive imagination composition designed for 4 around a mirroring mirror structure

During this experience, participants are invited to reflect on the social implications of social media algorithms and how these algorithms shape our interactions and perceptions in everyday life. The work aims to prompt discussions about the ways in which technology influences our behavior and the consequences of these influences on society as a whole.

At the center of the installation stands a mirrored monolith, functioning as a mirroring panopticon, which serves as a reference to the various mysterious monoliths that have appeared in different locations around the world over the past year. This mirrored structure not only adds a centered visual element to the piece but also encourages participants to engage in a contemporary sensory ritual. The monolith invites viewers to consider their own reflections, both literally and metaphorically, as they navigate the themes presented in the work.

Through this installation, Heremans seeks to create a space for contemplation and dialogue, allowing participants to explore the intersection of art, technology, and society.
